10.7 Eclipsing binaries

10.7.1 Introduction

The first Gaia catalogue of eclipsing binaries (EBs) is published in the table vari_eclipsing_binary of Gaia DR3 with about two millions candidates, a detailed presentation of which is given in Mowlavi et al. (2023).

For each EB candidate, we provide the most probable orbital frequency derived from the G light curve, a geometrical model of the G light curve composed of Gaussian and sine functions, and a global ranking. The light curve characterization is purely geometrical and is not meant to provide a physical description of the binary system. The global ranking is normalized between zero and one with a higher value of the ranking representing a better fit of the geometrical model to the data. Table vari_eclipsing_binary contains a detailed description of the published data products.
