14 Validation

14.8 Solar System Objects

Author(s): Federica Spoto

We perform an orbit fit to assess the quality of the data and verify that the uncertainties given and the positions are correct, including the position of the spacecraft. The validation procedure is very similar to the one performed for Gaia DR2 (see Gaia Collaboration et al. (2018c)).

We get the list of objects from number_mp. As a first step we don’t consider all the objects for which number_mp is zero (because they can be natural satellites of planets or unmatched objects (Tanga et al. 2023)). We get the orbits for all these objects from AstDys https://newton.spacedys.com/astdys/ and we run an orbit fit for each object using Gaia observations only, which means that we are not considering other available observations already published.
